Historical Context
About the Saint Gaudens Double Eagle series
Designer: Augustus Saint-GaudensYears struck: 1907–1933

Commissioned by Theodore Roosevelt as part of his beautification of US coinage. The 1907 Ultra High Relief is one of the most coveted American coins ever struck — only ~20 known. The 1933 Double Eagle was struck but never officially released; a single legally-owned example sold for $18.9 million in 2021, the highest price ever paid for any coin.
