One of the most famous American rarities. Only 24 were struck — accounts differ on why (the most colorful story: Mint Superintendent John Daggett struck them as a favor to his daughter Hallie). Approximately 9 are known to survive. Most recent sale exceeded $1 million.
Designed by Mint Chief Engraver Charles Barber after public dissatisfaction with the previous Seated Liberty design. The 1894-S Barber Dime is one of the most famous American rarities — only 24 were struck, and roughly 9 are known to survive. Series ended in 1916 with the introduction of the Mercury Dime.
